From David Moltz: Chanukah is a huge peak of the year for Jewish kids—even if it’s been “Americanized.” We grow up hearing stories of badass warrior Jews, the Maccabees, who reclaimed the holy temple of Jerusalem after it was desecrated by the Seleucid kings in antiquity. Though the story is foggy, it is believed that when the Maccabees went to relight their sacred lamp in the temple, there was only enough of the consecrated olive oil to last one night— they would need 8 days to make a fresh batch. But the oil miraculously lasted 8 days – the Maccabees devotion had been rewarded. I think about what that holy oil smelled like – I imagine the purest of floral olive—verdant green, with bright notes of fertile crescent citrus. This candle is a fantasy of that holy oil.
D.S. & Durga Candles burn for roughly 60 hours, please reuse the heavyweight glass tumbler when you are done burning your candle.
